🔥🎱🏆 2020 New Zealand Junior Pool Team Announcement 🏆🎱🔥

This year our juniors played over 3,000 frames of 8 Ball over five seasons across four VNEA Junior Leagues. While the senior team is selected on rankings alone, for our juniors we take behaviour and participation into account as well. Based on this criteria, we first select a Development Squad which meets a few times in the second half of the year to be coached, and to undertake a variety of drills.

From this squad we then look closer at the criteria and try to make the best fit in terms of the three age groups. It was not an easy decision this year. Some players unfortunately miss out due to the age group they are in being so competitive. However, they will have their chances next year as players move up into older age groups. Some players miss out based on them missing some of the junior leagues throughout the year, and, because of the numbers in their age group. Others simply need a year or two longer in the development squad to further develop their skills. Our coaches have provided them with the necessary materials to do this.

On this point, we need to take time to acknowledge the work our coaches and managers have done this year, especially when giving up so much of their time to help the juniors. There is no other group in New Zealand that does so much for junior pool so a big thank you to Jimmy HenryMarco TeutscherCole Hoggart, Bernie Endres, Wayne CareyMichael LumsdenLogan WalshHone Tito and Manfield Kwong.

The team will travel to where the Championships began 30 years ago, in Rochester, Minnesota, for what will be the 30th anniversary of the VNEA Junior World Pool Championships. The event starts on July 16 and runs through to July 19. With over 300 competitors, this is not only probably the longest running international junior tournament, but also one of the biggest.

Congratulations to the following players who will be representing New Zealand in the USA next year:

Our coaches felt that they both not only have the experience, but also the qualities required especially in terms of setting a good example for our younger team members to follow.

The team will be accompanied by coaches Cole HoggartJimmy Henry and Marco Teutscher, and managed by Bernie Endres.

🍀Good luck team!🍀

2020 New Zealand Pool Team Announcement

🔥🎱🏆 2020 New Zealand Pool Team Announcement 🏆🎱🔥

This year just under 10,000 frames of 8 Ball were played in two seasons across four VNEA Senior Leagues. It is from the rankings of these leagues that we select the team that will travel to Las Vegas in May next year to compete over two weeks in a variety of scotch doubles, 8 Ball singles, 9 Ball singles, the Teams World Cup, and the teams competition. Next year we will have representatives in all three divisions; Regular; Intermediate; and, Master. The 2020 World Pool Championships will be significant for two reasons. The first is that it is the 40th anniversary of this great tournament. The second is that New Zealand will be defending the Teams World Cup that it won in the final against Germany earlier this year.

Congratulations to the following players who will be representing New Zealand in Las Vegas next year:

The 2019 New Zealand Junior 9 Ball Championship Recap!

Our latest tournament catch up is on the 2019 New Zealand Junior 9 Ball Championships that were held in Hamilton just after the final of the ‘Anywhere in the World Tour’. New Zealand’s best junior 9 Ball players came together for the tournament that also doubled as the final leg of the Predator New Zealand Junior 9 Ball Tour, and the quality of play did not disappoint! Here is the report from Massé’s Head Coach, Jimmy ‘The Professor’ Henry:

2019 NEW ZEALAND JUNIOR 9 BALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Deon Rawlings has again stamped his authority as one of the best juniors in New Zealand. Winning the New Zealand Junior 9 Ball Championship for 2019, this is Deon’s 2nd consecutive win after taking the title last year as well. Fresh from his outstanding 4th place in the senior 10 Ball National Champs, Deon beat the other junior star, Zabian Jeram, by 7 frames to 5. These two players don’t really know how good they are! They have the talent to become professional players and we could do with a few more Marco sharks in New Zealand.

Massé is very lucky to have one Marco shark lurking around to inspire all of our juniors, and to show them that dedication and the right attributes are key to becoming world class players. The proliferation of Massé’s junior development program is starting to pay dividends with our juniors starting to make their mark on the senior division. These kids can really play.

A big performance from player of the day, young Harlem Hoggart, saw him come 3rd equal overall. Auckland’s Sheridan Burmester also put in a great effort to achieve his best tournament result, finishing 2nd in the Under 16 age group. Pukekohe’s Janni Beekman and Hamiltonian Jack Beggs have also shown big improvements since being named in the New Zealand Junior Development Squad.

Watch out for these future stars next year: Cam Stokes, Manthan Patel, Tyler Falepeau, and Laqueisha and Aaliyah Clifford. See you all at Massé’s junior prize giving on Sunday December 8.

Here are the results of the Championships:
