A strong field turned out for the first of the four McDermott 8 Ball Tour major tournaments with the minor McDermott 8 Ball League nights starting this week at the various Clubs. Players can gain ranking points at these week nights to go towards their chance at being eligible to compete in the championships. After the McDermott 8 Ball Tour has finished, the top 8 from each club will playoff for the mighty McDermott Championship.
Congratulations Joe Pologa for taking out the tournament; the older you get, the better you play! Joe has over 30 years’ experience with a background in snooker. It’s great to have him at our club because you can learn a lot by watching him. Joe is up with the best potters in NZ, he has one game plan – pot everything no matter how the balls sit. In the final he did just that to beat Jimmy “The Professor” Henry 6-4 pulling off some unbelievable finishes.
Top lady was Faz Ali and top Junior was Deon Rawlings and Zabian Jeram tied. Player of the day goes to Cliff Keach, a player who has been honing in on his skills in snooker for the last 10 years and I must say, played outstanding pool and produced a solid all round game.
